Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), or Internet phones, are still quite new for most people. We’ve gotten used to our normal, traditional phones—so what’s the hype with VoIP? What’s making it so popular, especially among business people?
Pros and cons of VOIP
VoIP is an upgraded version of your traditional telephone, which makes use of digital signals that can be sent over the Internet. What’s great about this is its connectivity and mobility. As long as you have an Internet connection (preferably a high-speed one), you can use your VoIP.
VoIP comes out cheaper, too, since unlike regular phone lines that transmit analog signals, you don’t pay monthly fees and surcharges. International calls won’t be too costly. If you have loved ones studying or working abroad, keeping in touch through a VoIP connection will lessen the hassle of long-distance communication.
There are, however, some downsides to using VoIP. A major one is the connection speed—sometimes calls get delayed by seconds, so you don’t really get to talk to each other in real time. It’s enough to get you annoyed, especially if you’re paying for the VoIP service. Bandwidth can also be a problem, especially if you’re participating in a video conference.
Pros and cons of regular telephone lines
VoIP spells convenience in cost and connectivity, but when it comes to reliability, you have to hand it to your regular landline phones. It’s probably the same system your grandparents used, but it’s still a system that works. Even without electricity, landline phones still work. Also, if you need that 911 service, landline phones are the better choice for you.
It’s still quite costly though, since it adds to your bills-to-pay list with all those monthly fees--more so, if you’re the type who makes international calls.
So do you go digital with VoIP or stick with old reliable landline? It all boils down to your needs. Figure out your phone priorities, then decide which connection really is for you.

Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is used for transmitting voice calls through the Internet and other networks. It’s different from the traditional phone system, which makes use of analog phone signals. Instead, VoIP uses digital signals that can be sent over the Internet. You can connect computer to computer, computer to phone, or phone to phone using a router.
Benefits of VOIP at home and at the office
Optimizing VoIP for your business is a good investment. Since it lets you make calls virtually anywhere there’s an Internet connection, VoIP offers the convenience of mobility. Even when you’re out of the office, it’s still easy to contact important people through VoIP.
VoIP also offers many functions because of its use of digital signals. Features like Call Waiting, Speed Dial, Repeat Dial, Do Not Disturb, Call Forwarding, etc. are easier to access through VoIP. You also enjoy lower rates. As long as you have a high-speed Internet connection, you don’t have to worry about monthly bills and other surcharges that come with the traditional analog phone.
Top VOIP providers in the US
With the popularity of VoIP, it’s now quite easy to find providers of this kind of service. Some of the top names in the industry are: Skype, Vonage, Phone Power, Ooma, ITP (The Internet Telephone People), Phone.com, ViaTalk, SpeedFlow, TeraSip, and True Call International.
VoIP is one way of increasing your connectivity. If it’s starting to become a need in your daily lifestyle, VoIP is a good investment. Research on different providers and find one that’s best suited to your needs. Before hooking up with a VoIP connection, make sure you know its features and how you can optimize it.

One way to place a VoIP call is through ATA or Analog Telephone Adaptor. You may view this method as the most common and simplest method of a VoIP technology. The method permits you to be connected to a standard phone to your Internet connection or computer to use with VoIP. Act as an analog-to-digital converter, ATA will take the signal from the phone and converts it into data transmission in the Internet. ATA is simple to use, since you only need to plug the cable from your phone and you're set to make VoIP calls.

With the advent of fast mobile computing, security has been one of those damn issues in which these internet service providers have to assure its clients. This is because as more and more people now use such platforms because of its accessibility and affordability, most spyware companies and hackers are continuing to develop ways and means to go around most security measures. Now, with VoIP, wherein security has been the main issue that plagues the users of such technology, people have to assure they get the highest quality when it comes to a VoIP network service.
By quality, I mean the security measures should always comply with the strictest and latest standards. As of the quality of the VoIP service, the VoIP providers should always hand out hardware and software that fits the standards set forth by the FCC. You should also look for a VoIP service that has the features of technical support everytime your system goes down either due to hacker attacks or malware problems. These security issues facing VoIP users are the same issues internet users are trying hard to eradicate. The fight against direct marketing systems is a continuing effort by most people, and with VoIP, these damn spammers have again developed another system which capitalizes a new accessible platform. Thus, the assurance that you have the top rated VoIP service should also provide you with enough peace of mind to start thinking of the more important things regarding your businesses' digital communication system.

In case you're planning to acquire a VoIP service from any of the best VoIP service providers available in your location, there are things to consider first before doing so. That's right. The first thing to consider involves the high-tech electronic equipment used for providing you with VoIP services. Carefully scrutinizing the equipment bundled with a VoIP service would assure you of flexibility in case you transfer to a different location or expand your VoIP network.
Of course, different equipment are used for each VoIP service, especially if you compare such devices from different VoIP service providers. But, there is what we call open standards when it comes to the development and later production of digital and electronic equipment. Thus, the VoIP equipment industry also has this feature of providing the equipment that meets open standard requirements.
So, check out whether the VoIP service provider you are planning to acquire VoIP services from has equipment that meets open standard requirements. An advantage of knowing the equipment you're getting in terms of open standard requirements is that it doesn't limit you to a single VoIP service provider. This is very important since the field of digital communications in the form of VoIP is perpetually evolving due to the continuous developments being done on it.

To enjoy total internet phone service through VoIP, one must know all the pros and cons of using this modern technology. It took me quite long before I was able to fully enjoy the many benefits of this technological breakthrough. One important thing to keep in mind is the use of an effective VoIP solution.
This MPAC 5600 provides an integrated system for an effective VoIP communication. This is actually a card that features about 1024 and 16 E1 slots for time of signaling connection gateway and its capabilities. This comes along with 1Gb/s Ethernet with its packet backplane that is switched. This card allowed me to get connected without the usual hassles being compatible with my cable connection type.
This solution's signaling powerful engine with about sixty-four channels gives an amazing signaling gateway that is integrated. This VoIP solution card is a perfect solution which can be used in an environment for Softswitch with a wide range of codecs and protocols which are available. It can also be manipulated or controlled through MEGACO and it presents the RTP?RTCP universal packet interface.

VoIP or telephony has given us so many conveniences that we don't want to let it go. The fast way of communicating is one of the elements why we adore the telephony. Of course we still have our cellular phones and landline units. But with the telephony, well, aside from the fact that its unique, is an easier and a cheaper way to call someone.
Oops, on second thought, is it really cheap and practical to use a telephony? Well, some of you might say yes, and those representatives of the old antediluvian world will say no of course. But both sides have their own right to their opinion and I'm not here to join one party or the other. I'm here to represent myself. I'm here to help you guys. Whether you're an expert to VoIP or need the Idiot's guide to telephony, I'm going to share you some insights on surviving in this telephony-driven world.
First things first, if you are applying for VoIP service, try to canvass about the companies that offers such feature. Check what company provides the best solution at the cheapest price. Remember, it won't hurt to be practical. After choosing the company provider, investigate about the features and benefits attach with the VoIP offer. Verify if they have shipping charges, money back guarantee or activation fees. There are some providers who don't have activation fee but they have delivery charges. so better watch out on that.
Never bite something that is more than what you can chew. Ask your friendly neighborhood about hidden charges of such companies. Though it's a good thing that you're keeping at bay with the latest hype of technology, it is also good if you're not wasting so much money.

The need for the implementation of open standards could be heard echoing within the VoIP industry. VoIP providers using peer-to-peer systems that lack their own dedicated networks to support voice calls are using internet service providers' bandwidth. With no control over the networks they talk over, they cannot prioritize voice traffic over data, which is required for effective VoIP communications. Consequently, the quality of voice and service may degrade, causing call drop-offs, echo, bad reception, and delays during the calls.
VoIP users exploiting P2P networks are also facing a threat of spam over internet telephony (SPIT), which is quickly becoming the next cheap avenue for spammers to advertise their products. Following eBay's admission that Skype's customer contact details will be made widely available to eBay's traders, its customers will be exposed to unwelcome ads. Beware, because SPIT not only causes the phone to ring constantly, but can also fill users' voicemail inboxes with junk mail.
Plusnet felt the need to provide a solution to this dilemma. It has called for the development of open Voice-over-IP standards to help build the quality of such services and make them less vulnerable to attack. The CEO of PlusNet, Lee Strafford, said that only by assigning dedicated bandwidth to VoIP calls can quality be assured. Only by using open standards can users talk freely to whoever they want to, regardless of who the provider is. VoIP providers who don't adopt open standards will keep their customers locked in closed communities.

The world has experienced a series of changes throughout the course of history. These changes, whether good or bad, are deemed impossible without the aid of communication. Communication plays a vital role in all aspects of human existence.
At present, there are various communication modes which we can make use of. We can reach out to other people from nearly every corner of the earth through letter writing, telephone conversation, fax messaging, text messaging, and recently through the VoIP, to name a few. It is interesting to note that voice conversation ensues a personal impact compared with the other forms of communication.
This variety is the recent technological breakthrough in the field of communication. It is effective for it manages and sends out digital voice information in distinct packets as opposed to the circuit-twined telephone system which we are accustomed into. It is likewise cost-efficient because it eliminates the tolls which are typically charged by common telephone service. Properly equipped with this amazing technology, you can keep abreast of your families, friends, and business as well. Aside from being fast, easy, and hassle-free, it is proven to be very effective too.

When I first heard about voice over internet protocol phones, I immediately thought that it has everything, it's cheaper, it provides internet services, and it provides coomunication through the regular phone. Many VoIP company provide services that can also be found in regular phones or analog phones. So, what would you choose? VoIP phones of course!
VoIP companies still offer important phone features in their VoIP services, such as, caller ID, call transfer, call waiting, repeat dial, return call, and three-way calling! Now, add these features to what's already in a VoIP phone. If you have one of this VoIP phones, can't you just help but say, ain't life grand?

Voice over Internet Protocol (or known commonly as advanced Internet telephony) is the directing of voice data over the Internet or any web-based network. Voice data flow is not like in dedicated circuit-switched transmission lines. Instead, it flows over a general purpose packet-switched network.
Protocols employed to transmit voice signals over the Internet Protocol network are termed Voice over Internet Protocol protocols.
Some of the implemented standards in Internet telephony are as follows: DVB (stands for Digital Video Broadcasting) for media streaming, H.261 video stream for transport using real-time transport, SGCP ( Simple Gateway Control Protocol) and Skinny Client Control Protocol.

Having new technologies does not necessarily mean security or reliability. The same principle goes for VoIP, which is the modern replacement for the ordinary phone. VoIP depends heavily on electrical energy, so the use of VoIP may be limited or not applicable during power shortages. VoIP also runs on a different line and may be accessed electronically, so VoIP calls may be messed up through disturbing data packets. It is best to always take precautionary measures such as network security and power backup systems to ensure smooth VoIP communications.

So you think having something as advanced as VoIP can burn your pockets? On the contrary, VoIP can even save you some money compared with the conventional landline phone service. This is possible because most VoIP subscribers pay only for the calling features or other services available in the plan they chose. Some people even get better deals because their VoIP is also provided by their broadband Internet service company, hence they can obtain package offers. So you see, new technology does not always mean cost.
